- How does it work?
In summary, here is how the credentialing service works:
- Physicians, Dentists, etc.
- Enter and securely store your credentialing information in the SCS for free.
- Receive automated reminders to update information that is incomplete or expiring
- Keep the information up to date and attest every 120-180 days
- Insurance plans/networks, etc.
- Perform outreach and drive providers to enter their information electronically into the SCS
- Search the SCS to see if a provider has a completed application available
- Once found, there are 2 options:
- Subscribe to the provider’s profile and pay a small fee for 12 month unlimited access to the raw, provider application information
- In addition to the item above, contract with SCS to perform primary source verification or ongoing monitoring for an additional fee

Basically, because it saves time and money. Through extensive testing, we have found that it takes 15-20 minutes for a provider to complete the application for the first time, and a few minutes each year to re-attest and keep it updated.

Obtaining the credentials needed to build a provider network is typically an expensive, time-consuming process because it can take weeks or months to mail out paper applications to the targeted providers, follow up by phone/email/mail/fax/carrier to get the information back, and finally enter it into your system by hand – one application and supporting document at a time. Not anymore, however.

For most providers, the credentialing process must feel like the movie Groundhog Day. The office receives a multiple page application that must be filled out in order to add the provider to the payer’s network. The provider or a staff member then dutifully fills out the application and mails it back or (in the more “progressive” instances) submits it online. Next week, another application comes in asking for the same information and the office goes through the process again. Rinse and repeat for each payer’s provider network.
