Early Detection in Vision Care Catches the Eyes of Payers

It’s said that a person’s eyes are the windows to the soul—and it’s also becoming clear that eyes offer an important look into whole-body health. Vision care providers can be the first to detect early signs of serious systemic diseases. In fact, there’s an emerging field of oculomics developing around use of eye scans to identify and detect heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, risk of stroke, sickle cell anemia and other conditions at an early stage. There’s also research indicating eye scans could help identify risk of Alzheimer's much earlier than ever. Dramatic growth in recent years of artificial intelligence (AI) diagnostic tools and analysis is helping drive this trend.

Faces We Won’t Forget: Highlights from Tanzania and Kenya

Seven years ago, having your eyes tested and getting glasses was very difficult in Tanzania. The few optometrists there were—one for every 250,000 people—were out of reach for the country’s mostly rural population.

To create much-needed access to vision care, the SKYGEN International Foundation began bringing free vision testing and prescription eyeglasses to Tanzania through mobile clinics. We reached a milestone this year: As of November 30th, we’ve given 337,371 vision tests and distributed 107,111 free pairs of prescription glasses, reading glasses and sunglasses in Tanzania and Kenya. We’ve also added wellness testing to our services.

Reimagine Provider Collaboration with Integrated, Automated Workflows

What if those losses could be stopped with a single shift in how workflows are managed? Integrated, automated workflows aren’t just a technology upgrade. They’re a way to reclaim time, reduce errors, and transform how your teams collaborate with vision providers.
