MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., – Oct. 1, 2024 – Today, SKYGEN released its 2025 Pulse Report: Provider Perspectives, emphasizing the critical need for payers to understand providers’ perspectives and priorities within the specialty benefits landscape. Among a sampling of U.S. dental and vision providers across all demographics, the report found that they are overwhelmingly receptive to embracing new strategies to advance patient outcomes – and payer collaboration is at the forefront of these initiatives.

“This report demonstrates SKYGEN's commitment to advancing industry dialogue, by focusing on the provider perspective to foster better collaboration across the healthcare ecosystem,” said John Schaak, Chief Innovation and Growth Officer. “We are excited to be in the unique position to not only offer up this research but also continue to provide the technologies and solutions necessary to drive change.”

The Pulse Report – the second of a three-part series from SKYGEN focused on vision and dental specialty benefits – aims to empower payers by shedding light on an industry ready for change, offering insights on opportunities to enhance payer-provider collaboration.

Technology Solutions
More than half of dental (52%) and vision (51%) providers recognize the value of technology in addressing key billing and administrative challenges, calling for insurers to adopt solutions that enhance efficiency and accuracy. SKYGEN’s technology connects payers and providers to reduce administrative burden through streamlining tasks such as claims processing, patient eligibility verification, credentialing and provider directory data management.

The report also found that providers recognize the impact of technology in improving care, with remote monitoring devices ranking highest on their wish list for clinical tools that enhance patient outcomes.

AI Adoption
Providers are in favor of payers utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), with 56% of dental and vision providers exploring AI options and 35% already implementing them in their practices. Respondents expressed little to no major concerns about AI integration, highlighting utilization management (90%) and claims adjudication (87%) as the top areas where they are most eager to see AI-driven automation. SKYGEN’s Benefits Automation solutions enable AI review of radiographs and periodontal charting for automated approvals of treatment plans and authorizations.

Preventive Care
One-third of providers say that expanding coverage for preventive care is critical for improving patient outcomes and addressing health equity. SKYGEN enables payers to lean into preventive care with benefit plan flexibility and automation that makes it easy to integrate specialized or advanced screenings for oral or vision health.

Integrated Care
While most providers are receptive to integrating medical, dental and vision care, they report that the critical health information they need from other providers is rarely accessible via the technologies available today. For instance, 88% of dental and 81% of vision providers indicated a gap in care alerts that provide health recommendations as a tool/technology missing from their practice today.
